Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2021-09-17T01:29Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2021-09-17T01:29:00-IPS-001 (version 6)
Quality of ICME Signature: 2 (clear signatures)
Note: This IPS signature exhibits a notable change in B-field fluctuations (a jump from 4 to 7 nT in B_tot) and an increase in density from 5 to 12 cm^-3. Field rotations are subsequently observed with corresponding drops in temperature, suggesting the passage of one or more flux ropes. This signature later exhibits a southward B_z component with a peak magnitude of 13 nT. An additional Earth-directed CME may be included in this arrival signature and is possibly associated with a second filament eruption visible to the north of the Earth-facing disk in SDO AIA 304 (starting around 2021-09-13T08:00Z). However, a possible second CME is not identifiable in the available coronagraph imagery from 2021-09-13.
